In an article on labour market prospects in Canada over the next decade, the Globe and Mail notes the federal government report Looking Ahead: A 10-year Outlook for the Canadian Labour Market and the on-line education and careers reference tool Job Futures. From the article:
The federal government's 10-year outlook for Canadian labour markets holds reassuring news for parents: The kids will be okay.
Over the next decade, an estimated 1.7-million new jobs will be created as a result of increased economic activity, while close to 3.8 million existing positions "will be freed up by retirements," according to a report recently published by Human Resources and Social Development Canada.
This will make it easier for new labour force entrants to land that critical first job in the years ahead - and will also create plenty of opportunities for those currently in the work force to move up the ranks, according to the report, Looking Ahead: A 10-year Outlook for the Canadian Labour Market.
As the labour market tightens, the most pressing issue for young graduates will not be whether they can find work - but whether they can find work they love.
To help them sort through the array of options, a companion report on entry-level work prospects - published on the government's career website JobFutures.ca - provides career information for young people on current employment prospects in a range of occupations (www.jobfutures.ca/noc/browse-occupations-work-prospects.shtml).
